The Gurukulam Experience:
Living with the Teachings
This level of study and practice is for those who wish a deeper and fuller experience of Yoga.
Gurukulam is composed of two words: guru = remover of darkness/spiritual master; and kula = to gather together. It is a form of study similar to apprenticeship.
Gurukulam goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge of techniques and theories. It emphasizes self-refinement and transcendence, through dedication to the guru’s guidance and his or her teachings. Regarded as the best way for students to mature spiritually, it has withstood the test of time for millennia.
The direct transmission of wisdom from one human being to another, from master to disciple, is perfectly suited for successfully navigating through and around obstacles to the experience of Self-realization. It is ideal for learning how to integrate the intricacies and subtle experiences of Yoga into daily life.
Gurukulam also includes the benefit of becoming part of a community of like-minded seekers (sangha), who support each other in their spiritual goals. Coming together in the name of Self-realization and service to others is a powerful tool for growth.
Those who are attracted to the teachings of the Yoga Life, as taught by Rev. Jaganath, are welcome to explore this deeper dimension through Mantra Initiation, Acharya Training, or the Yoga life Ministry.
Mantra Initiation (mantra diksha)
Open to anyone regardless of background or faith tradition, Mantra Initiation is for those who have come to understand that the teachings, practices, and goal of Yoga are fundamentally important to them in life. Specifically, it is a conscious commitment to the guru/disciple relationship.
This commitment is not one-sided. The Guru walks alongside disciples in their spiritual quest, guiding and supporting them until they reach Self-realization.
Those who are familiar with the theories and practices of Yoga, as taught by Rev. Jaganath, and who are willing to do their best to apply those teachings to daily life, can apply.
Acharya Training Program
For initiates only, this is a three-year program designed to better prepare students for serving others. It includes a deeper look at the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, training in public speaking, the performance of pujas, meditation, counseling, interfaith studies, and more.
Yoga Life Ministry
This two-year program, not yet begun, will be open to those who successfully complete the Acharya Training Program. Graduates will be ordained as Ministers of the Yoga Life, and will be available to perform weddings, baby blessings and other ministerial functions.
